Indesign has less stock swatch colours that Illustrator. you can use
these colours or add new ones to apply colour to text and shapes,
applying to either fill or stroke. 'x' swaps between fill and stoke.
More options with text apply to background or text.
Swatch
options new swatch to create a new swatch for pallet, all Indesign
swatches are automatically 'global'. swatches allow different tints and
are all liked to the original therefore it is possible to change the
CMYK percentage.
Pantone colour can be added and again tints can be made of the Pantone colours.
When importing files into InDesign from;
Photoshop - Colour CMYK/Greayscale
300DPI
Actual size- should not have to resign or adjust in InDesign should all be done in Photoshop
Format TIFF or PSD
Illustrator - Colour CMYK
Format AI
Always place file in document using 'place' file. when placing file
frame will automatically place as well no need to make a frame.
The
swatch colours from the dutone PSD file are automatically added to
swatch pallet, similarly with illustrator art work a frame and the
colours are automatically imported into the document / swatch pallet.
with
an illustrator art work only the artwork is placed and not the
background. you can select show import options for more import options
for example transparency.
PDFs can be placed in InDesign but you must work with import options.
link
pallet shows all the likes in Indesign and if there are any missing.
Indesign uses links to make the file quicker and smaller.
If you adjust an illustrator file it will automatically update in Indesign.
Quick key 'Alt' then double click the illustrator link and it will open the original file.
With a TIFF file you can create a monochrome image using Indesign but only with grey scale image.
select the image not just the frame and fill with spot colour.
Colour seperation:
if you where to use a normal printer you would get a composite print.
print options separation ink section show what inks are in use. In commercial print these would be different printing plates.
You can preview your colour separation using window, output, colour separation
Use a Pantone separation when special printing and tell the printer which colour you want replacing with varnish or glue etc...
