Speaking from Experience Final Outcome

Speaking from Experience

My initial idea was to make a hotdog book with a wall chart on the back and the content of the book on the front, I soon decided against this and created a different type of book. but I still wanted to make a a wall chart, so using the same theme as the one from the book I created this wall chart to be an addition to the book.

Speaking from Experience

This was the first attempt at printing the book with varying degrees of success, unfortunately the ink did not want to bond to the stock I had chosen and made quite the mess of the pages. Despite this it was a useful exercise to experiment with the binding method I would use, in the case of this mock up it was some disgracefully places staples all quite crudely hidden with poorly printed cover. This was an important step though on the road to a half decent book.

Speaking from Experience

This is the layout I have chosen for my book, it will consist of 19 pages including covers. I have decided to use a french fold when binding my book having double thick pages with a gap between each one, I first saw this style of book binding when a visiting professional brought in some samples of the work he had done for a school perspective, I consequently researched this and worked out my own way of binding.

Speaking from Experience

In addition to the quotes I want there to be pictures of the facilities in and around college showing the new student what a vast array of different equipment, from sound booths to mac suits and everything in between.

After the crit 14/05/2011 it came up that the quotes I had originally used where not relevant and just generally abit rubbish so i thought that I would ask people for their opinions of certain areas of the college for example the mac suits.

Here are several quotes I will use in my book about various different subjects regarding the college. The quotes are from the current first year GD students, class of 2010- 2013, for the new first years class of 2011-2014. The quotes will be along side several pictures of various facilities within the college.

Speaking from Experience

After producing the small calendar with with the outlandish colours and pictures in the background, I thought to my self, 'wow that makes me feel physically ill' thus I should probably not unleash them on the world. So I went back to the drawing board and came up with a different layout (the above)  all together something much better in my opinion. I took both articles into the interim crit and the feelings about the two articles where mutual. The crit also shun light on the poor quality of the pictures used and the unrelated quotes about student life and LCA, this was not entirely unexpected as bringing the work into the crit it was very rough and in its infancy.

Speaking from Experience

These are a few ideas I had after dismissing the road sign idea I want to incorporate images from around the college with a calendar and quotes from student and what they think about being a student in Leeds but especially at LCA.
